The DAC1

The Analog Domain DAC1 is a state of the art digital to analog audio converter. It has been designed to faithfully render the full quality of audio recordings in digital format with unaltered dynamics and resolution.

Input data is asynchronously resampled to a very high, constant output data rate. Asynchronous resampling effectively eliminates any potential jitter and timing issues. The resampled data enters a digital filter, where it is further upsampled, the purpose being to set the data rate for the DAC chip as high as possible, thereby pushing the digital noise high above the audio band and thus eliminating the need for a steep reconstruction filter in the analog stage.

The DAC1 is available in two versions – with or without volume control. The volume control is implemented as a precision, analog stepped logarithmic attenuator. The output volume is adjusted without affecting signal quality. Having volume control at the source enables the use of power amps, eliminating the need for a preamplifier.

We’d like you to relax while listening to your favorite music instead of fumbling around with complicated and often meaningless settings, or worrying about numbers. We’ve done it for you while designing the DAC1. Our goal is to maximize the enjoyment of music from digital sources.
